We live in the East, but my Dad's family is from Omaha. I have a new pair of black butterfly Rocketbusters--!!!
...and a lot of happy memories of watching my Uncle win or place in rodeos.
My Dad has hay fever, or he would have been a cowboy too. They both wanted to be called "Buck". hahahaha. Well, he had to go the other way ( I mean underwater, where there are no horses, except seahorses) and he is a skin diver, still! at 77. Hah! That solved the hay fever problem.
I loved it when my Uncle practiced his roping skills on us when we were little. He was very, very good [a header--team roping]. I am sure he would have been puzzled, looking at these elaborate and beautiful boots...but heck, he never pushed me around so it would have been ok in the long run. He loved his trophy belt buckles, that's for sure, so maybe it's the same thing. :)

My first pair of boots are a faded memeory now. I cannot recall exactly what they looked like except that they were inlaid Pee-Wee style; this would have been in 1960-61 or so, and my second pair was Acme rough outs in 1967, or so. Both were brought to me by Santa Clause but I sniffed them out before I had them unwrapped, much to my parents' dismay.

I had George Millward make me a pair of black and red kangaroos. I love them! The bottoms are black with red tops. He inlayed silver stars. I get looks everywhere I go, and my cowboy (my husband)loves them!

I have had Tony Lama boots (model 2914) for a year now. They are very comfortable and I am very glad that I bought them. I will take good care of them and I will use them for many years to come. They mean a lot to me since I bought them for my wedding.

I know that they aren't really cowboy boots, but my favorite pair is a pair of wool insolated Cabellas that my mother bought me at a yard sale for 15 dollars, they're well worth it, since then I purchased a pair of Justins for a dollar from an old man, I look forward to putting years of use into them. Sincerely,

I wanna say my favorites are the ones I made but the Tony Lamas I got in an antique store are so snuggly and mine are still not broke in yet. The Tony Lamas are python vamps with shiny black with white shaded to black stitching. The colors are so elegant together. I've been trying on boots for about 30 years and could just never find a pair that fit well enough to purchase. When I finally learned to make boots I was so excited to have a pair that fit (hey and I really like the stitching design too). About 2 weeks after finishing that pair for myself I found three pairs of Tony Lamas in the antique store that fit like they were made for me. The pythons are the sexiest but the tan ones with brown stitching are my all time favorite for comfort and being cool. And a girl's got to be cool at least some of the time. When I need that cool day I put on the tan Lamas. Pants in, of course.

Such a cool website! i remember my first pair of wellingtons for chores and acme for riding. but now i have one pair of beautiful Hondo dress boots with a 2.5 heel and real pointy toes, but they are soft and high in the arches and worn out from dancing! my hubby got a pair of buffalo hide Nocona for our wedding day almost 12 years ago and just now he went to a chestnut anteater by Chisholm. Try the No Name boot company out of Otis Orchard, Washington. A little north of Texas and great!!

Best boot I own are a pair of Sendra's purchased in Holland... They got a 12 inch shank, clip toes, and a really cool inlay pattern that goes from front to back. Only problem is, I can't find any place in thes states that sells em.... They are like Lay's tater chips... can't have just one... pair that is...

just a plain pair of justin ropers...bought 'em in a hurry going to a show in north atlanta. They have seen 13 years of calf and team ropin', 12 years of post graduate education, 3 jobs, a couple of homes, three states and one ex-wife. They were never fancy but few things in life have been as durable and reliable to me as those old ropers. They may be on their "last heel" and I've thought about bronzing one or both of them. They've earned it.

Way back in 1974 the company I was working for in Norway sent me to the Murchison Drilling Technology School in Alberquerque, New Mexico and while there I bought my self the most fantastic pair of Tony Llama Eelskin boots you could imagine.
Now when they say "Invest in the best" it can only mean these boots, 'cos after all these years, they're still going strong.
They've had a hand done re-soloing and heeling in Brasil 3 years ago and are still going strong, what a pair of boots, what an investment. Although I did question my sanity at the time paying nearly $300 for them - but I'm glad I did.
And let me tell you, IF those boots cold speak...

I just picked up a nice pair of Lucchese Ropers on eBay. OK,
they aint made like a true western boot, but I can
get my feet into them with a little persuasion, and the
water treatment should make them fit like a glove.Goin'
to have a lift put in the left heel 'cause the surgeon
who did my new right knee made it a half inch longer
than the left. If you ever have to do this to a boot be
sure they slope the lift right or it will bite you across
the arch just in frontof the heel. Recently bought a
pair of Tony Lamas that had been resoled and re-heeled,
Sure enough, they bite across the back of the arch.
Otherwise the water fitting method has been very successful
for me and I get a fit almost as good as made-to-measure. I
think I'm goin' to like the Ropers even though they
aint the real McCoy.

I have been collecting old boots for a while now and I'm not even sure why. I've never worn a pair myself. I just love them and have for most of my life. I grew up in Arizona and now live in the San Francisco Bay Area. I really miss seeing cowboy boots on people. I've always pondered: why are most cowboy boots so beautifully made, with carvings and designs and colors.....yet no one ever sees the artistry because so very few people wear their jeans inside their boots? I look at boots as works of art and will always appreciate their beauty. To me the most beautiful ones are those that are worn, battered and scuffed.

Ok so at only 26 I could not have possibly tried that many makers but Mr. Kimmel in Comanche has definately made the best fitting boot for my discriminating foot. I wear about a fifteen A-AA heel and am crazy wide across my toes. I also have a wide instep and damned if he has not just made a perfect fit. The latest pair is Chocolate Calf with Walking heel, Double stitched soles and fire engine red tops with JB in the front of the tops and white piping. These boots are 3 years old now and I only wear them in the arena and working (not my everyday job)but they are like new, and so so comfortable. Not too pricy either.

The first pair of boots I bought was in Holland in just an ordinary shoe store. In the back corner they had a small stand with cowboy boots. They only costed me about $120. But they fitted like a glove (and they still do!). A few years ago I found a small shop in downtown Antwerp specialized in western clothing and boots. They mostly sell Sendra-boots. Yesterday I bought a new pair in snake skin; real beautiful boots but very expensive. I hope they last as long as that very first pair I bought in Holland. Hope to read some more from ya guys!

I dont have them anymore. Someone stole them and
probably dont know what treasure they have. Besides
they probably dont fit because my feet dont match.
Sam Lucchese made them for me just before I was
recalled into the Air Force in '51.
Of course I had little opportunity to wear them,
particularly while stationed in Alaska, but just
before I returned to live in San Antone I took them
to a local boot shop for cleaning, polishing, and new
heel caps, and they just disappeared.
They were just plain russet calfskin vamps and counters
with a simple toe bug and conventional crease marking.
The uppers were high calf height, flat tops with one
inch scallops. Stitching was an eight row pattern that
almost completely filled the open space on the supple
calf. They slipped on and off with little effort, yet
there was no slip whatever in the heel. I think Sam
charged me the magnificent sum of $75 which was two week's
wages back then. They were hardly
on the ground except for incidental walking because I
bought them especially for work in the saddle.
I no longer ride, advancing years have deprived me of the
privilege, but I have another pair of Luccheses -
off the rack, and fitted by the old water method. They
are alright for walking around and I get many compliments
on them, but I will always miss the ones Sam made for me
personally fifty odd short years ago.

My favorite pair of cowboy boots is usually the pair I'd like to add to my collection. I probably have somewhere between 50 and 70 pairs including Tony Lama, Justin, Champion, Dan Post, Olathe, etc., etc. A number of pairs of my boots were made to order.
One of my favorites is a Champion boot, maybe made in the 70s (I bought it on Ebay). The foot of the boot is red patent leather while the shaft is a diamond pattern in red and white patent. These are a great pair of boots to wear with jeans tucked in them! I also have a couple pair of Longhorn boots that are real works of art: one pair is called Jungle with a bone color background and miles of light and dark green leaves, vines and a few colored accents while the other is known as the German Eagle boot in navy with red hot wingtip and heel and a great white-red-yellow eagle front and back.
Lately I've taken to wearing these boots with trousers inside. How else can others appreciate the artwork?

My favorite pair of boots are my Dave Littles. Made in 1982 for a then pricy sum of $700.00. They fit like a glove from day one and feel better today. Although theese boots would cost twice that today I still beleive that $700.00 divided by 20 years of wear ($35.00 a year) is a good deal. I live 2 hours from his shop in San Antonio and would suggest that if you are ever near there you should stop in and look around. If you love boots, he has lots of them on display to look at. Bottom line, do not be affraid to spend extra on any top boot makers boots they are worth it in the long run.

I have been looking and contributing to this web-page for about 4 years now. From the beginning I was curious as to why several and now a dozen or more people complimented Tex Robin and the boots he made.
A couple years ago I had sent Tex a pair of Tex Robin boots for him to repair/resole. I had bought the boots off of Ebay. He did a great job resoling and adding new boot pulls. I had seen the pictures of his boots on his web-page, and boot books. In a couple trips to the Bootmakers Roundup in Brownwood, I saw several of his boots in person, a couple of them won in their catagory.
It was time to get a pair made for me by Tex.
I made an appointment in Nov. 99 to discuss what I wanted, and get measured. I had emailed Tex several times before but it was the first time I got to meet him and talk in person. We discussed boots and bootmakers for hours. I ordered a pair of cognac kangaroo vamps, blue tops, with 6 rows of orange stitching. Tex later recommended a chocolate bullhide counter.
To make the story short, I wished everyone could have seen the smile on my face last Tuesday (01-29-02)when I saw the boots for the first time. They are absolutely beautiful, well made, fit great and the chocolate bullhide counter was a great idea on looks and durability.
I own about 100 pairs of boots, mostly Ebay purchases or Lucchese, but I bought two James Leddy boots, one pair M L Leddy boots, and 2 Rodney Ammons boots that were custom made for me. I like my custom boots a lot, and they were made by good bootmakers. But my Tex Robin boots are better than those and are my new favorites.
There is a good reason why many people compliment Tex Robin and his boots, and a good reason why his boots have been featured in boot books and magazines, he is as good as any bootmaker ever. His boots are beautiful, well made and fit great.
If anyone would like to see a picture of my Tex Robin boots, feel free to email me at bronbo@aol.com. I am very proud of them, but there will be more Tex Robin boots in my future that will replace them.

Born and raised in Texas and a guy that has worn boots all my life. I have tried a lot of boots and being an ol Texas boy, I would have never thought I would say my favorite boots were made in Kansas. I had never had boots, off the shelf fit like my Olathe's. About a year and a half ago I had to have them re-healed. I was talking about geting some custom boots when the boot doc said to bad we are not closer to Coleman Texas. I said I'm working there next week, so he gave me directions to Tex Robin. I now have a new favorite pair. These are the best looking and feeling of any I have ever owned. They are just a simple bull hide with some fancy stiching and initials. Tex Robin is a fine boot maker and a real nice guy.

My favorite pr of boots are a pair of T. O. Stanleys. They are approximately 18-20 years old and are made of a beautiful shade of peanut brittle colored crocodile. Born and raised cowboyin and ranching, my family has been in cattle since before the turn of the century. It used to be you could buy fantastic boots off the shelf, all the way up to the mid 70's. Custom boots have been a part of my family for almost as long as we've been ranchin. Blucher's and Paul Bonds have been the best until most recently, and old 50's, 60's, and 70's Tony Lama and Justins have been the best traditional and off the shelf custom boot. Looking forward to Lisa Sorrell's boots.

Hello, I am a Bootist by accident. To pick a favorite pair would be
hard but I will start with the first pair I bought.
They are a 17 inch high pair of Olathe brand boots I bought at
the Double "O" western wear store in Sulpher Springs Texas.
I had never seen a pair of boots like these. They are Cream calf
on top and brown horse on the bottom.
Because of this pair of boots and subsequent visits to the now
closed factory in Olathe, KS I have furthered my collection of
Western boots to over 900 pairs. My friends and family think I am
crazy but now I know I have company. Bootmaking is an Art and by
collecting, all of us are preserving our history for future generations. Keep making and I will keep collecting !

I have worn cowboy boots all my life. Since I could pay for my own I have owned Tony Lama, Justin, J Chisholm and others. I thought Tony Lama made the size that fit me perfectly until I tried a pair by Paul Bond of Nogales AZ. I started saving my money and buying from Paul a few years ago and will not go back to "store bought boots" as long as he is in business. I currently have two pair of Paul Bond shark, one calf and three of ostrich with another pair of ostrich in the making. I have evolved from 12 inch tops through 14 inch and the last ones have 16 inch tops. Paul is a great man and a fantastic boot maker. If you can't afford it now, save your nickels and dimes until you can, they are worth it! I was at Paul's a few days ago (24 Nov 01)and they were filming a segment on him for Home and Garden TV, watch for it!

.....in regards to my previous guestboot signing, someone asked me what I meant by "no comparison." Ray Jones and Pablo Jass are one when it
comes to bootmaking. Of any custom bootmakers, there is "no comparison" to a pair of Ray Jones and/or Pablo Jass boots.
Simply the BEST custom boot made.
Timothy
San Saba, Texas USA -
Everyone has their opinion about boots and that's great. Texas has a great deal of custom bootmakers. Some of which seem to make a crude attempt
to copy some of the stitching (toe flower and tops), as well as pulls. But, no other has come close to a pair of Ray Jones boots. Since Ray's passing,
Pablo Jass has stepped in Ray's boots and the tradition continues.
Pablo is still locatd on Ave. G in Lampasas, TX. I consider his boots to be 'TOPS' with me, and I know all his customers agree. All my pig suede boots
have the same Trademark Ray Jones toe flower and of top stitching, along with the Trademark pulls. Together with 6-row stitching and walking
heels, I've got the BEST boot made. (see Texas Monthly 2000-01-01:http://www.texasmonthly.com/mag/issues/hot/2000-01-01/artoftheboot.html ).
You see, there will always be makers who will try their best to copy, but there WAS only one Ray Jones, as there IS only one Pablo Jass. No comparison.

my fav-oh-right boots is/are a pair of peanut brittle justin ostrich and a justin lizard skin ---the latter i have had for nearly twenty
years and they wear as good today as they did when i first purchased them at a consignment shop for forty bucks---and the clerk looked
at me like i was a nut for buying those awful looking boots. they were in great disrepair and hadn't been polished in ages,
needed heels and soles. but i know the value of the skins and the potential beauty that lay beneath that dull exterior.
they have been a delight for nearly two decades. they were the first "real" pair of boots i ever owned. since then i have
acquired many more pair---and derive great joy from each one of them.

My favorites are a custom made pair from Blucher Boots of Fairfax, OK (they've now relocated to Beggs, OK). They were a birthday gift from my dad about 10 years ago.
They're oxblood kangaroo all around, with a medium round toe and and a walking heel, every aspect custom fitted. I lost a lot of weight between the time I was fitted for them and the time I recieved them, so they're a bit loose in the heel for me, even today. I still love them for the workmanship involved, and they're still beautiful boots today.
I've owned lots of boots in the past. The Blucher's are the only custom made pair I've owned, and I'll stick with 'em...hope I can afford a new pair soon.
As for off the rack boots, I don't think you can beat Lucchese...I've owned a few pairs, and loved all of them. Unfortunately, I wasn't done growing, so they're all gone now. Their traditional style goatskin boots are my favorites.
I was admiring a sweet pair of Rios de Mercedes boots in a shop in Misissippi a while back. Beautiful black goatskin, squarish toes...very traditional style, and a helluva price. I commented, to the old lady working there, about the Spainish styling of the boot. She said something to the effect of "Yeah, that's 'cause of all the wetbacks there in Texas". I put the boots down and left. To this day, I'd love to own those boots, but because of one old lady's prejudice, I don't.

Nothing fancy: 2 pairs of Acmes and 2 pairs of Dingos! They're comfortable and look great, even if I am the only one in the midwest not wearing hikers like everybody else. I wear them to the office almost every day. Dress shoes hurt my feet and I just like the look of cowboy boots with anything: suits, jeans or khakis. I know I'm a throwback to the 1980's with my choice of footwear, but I can live with that. I hope to own a pair of J. B. Hill hornback alligators one day, but for now that is an expensive dream! I prefer "j" toe and underslung heels and shafts at least 12 inches in height. No laces or ropers for this guy.

I recently puchased a pair of boots from Cobos Leatherwerx and I'm very pleased with them. I happened on the website and gave them a call.
Dave Cobos answered the call and worked with me to get the boots I wanted on all the calls after that. I took advantage of one of his 'specials'
and had him make me a pair of boots for motorcycling. He let me make additions and modifications, pick the toe and heel, design the stitching on
the shaft of the boot and put on the sole I wanted. And he delivered the whole thing in about three weeks. They look great, feel great and work
the way they're supposed to. I recently had the chance to test them (not willingly) in a series of thunderstorms over a period of more than an
hour. On a motorcycle the rain is coming on at 65 or 70 miles per hour. The oil-tanned leather and solid stitching kept my feet perfectly dry. I
think these boots are done better than the several pairs of Luccheses I usually wear. If you're looking for well priced , well made boots, try Dave

My favorites are a pair of black Sanders, a Mexican made cowboy boot. They fit great, feel great and look awesome with levis. Some would refer to me as a "wannabee" cowboy and that's kewl with me cause it's TRUE! I'm definitely not a REAL one but I'd love to be IF I COULD. Bottom line: "Cowboyism" is sometimes as much about spirit as about where you come from. I feel at home in boots and that goes deeper than mere costuming. I'm a real boot man, own 5 pairs so far and will likely keep buying them. Used boots are great if u want that worn look fast. All boots deserve a home with some one who admires them and will wear them with pride.

This is getting ridiculous, Jennifer June. I'm hooked. Or I got the boot. My second pair in a week. I'm just glad I have some discretionary income at the moment. This time it's Tony Lama Ol' Bucks, black. A whole different cut from the Justins, a half-size larger, a different feel, not as dressy, but they look good and they feel good. The woman I live with has started to call me "Imelda." I've got a closet full of shoes I don't wear anymore that are in good shape that I'm going to have to stuff into one of those charity boxes for distribution to people not as lucky as I am. I'll wear the boots when I do it.

My favorite pair? No, my second pair of boots ever, and thank the New York Times for the story about this website or I'd never have thought to look. But there we were, and here I am, and owning Justin Tan Carona lacers, which I'm breaking in but which so far feel as good as they look. My first pair look like shoes...they're Frye look-like-shoes, but they act like boots, which means breaking-in, so I'm being careful about not overdoing it the first couple of days. But I LOVE these things. A sign?--first thing that happened after I put them on this morning was that I had to rescue a stray cat. Now that may not mean a lot to some people, it may sound funny, but that's saving a life, and how you do it?...well, I put some stock in signs, and maybe those boots getting their first sole-scuffs rescuing a sick animal are a sign that those boots and I are meant to be.

Had a cheap pair as a kid and loved wearing them. Back in college 20 years ago, I bought a peanut colored-shark skined pair of Rios of Mercedes. Lost them somehow about 10 years ago and replaced them with Naconas. Same color and skin but darked them up a bit with polish and stain to give it a suedo burgandy color. the Naconas fit fine but the Rios had that "unknown" name (at least to me at the time) and fit different. Now that I've found them again because of this site, (thanks Ms. June) I'll give them a call!

The best Pair of cowboy boots that I own are Teju Lizard made by a company called Amirillo Boots. These boots are made in Mexico and I have to tell you that Boots made in Mexico Blow Tony Lama out of the water. The next pair of exotic skins that I get I am making sure they are made in Mexico. The boots are better quality, Nicer leather.
Tony Lama's are nice too but I feel there quality of Boots have gone down hill the past couple of years. What do you think?

I have worn boots for more than 30 years. I worked construction as a pipefitter/welder for ten years and then went into the ministry as a college professor. My favorite work boots were "hands down" the oil-retaned Red Wings. They were extremely heavy to carry around, but could not be worn out. I have worn Justins and Noconas all this time also. Noconas were the best for fit and price and wear. I have just received my first new pair of Champion's from the Sanchez family in El Paso. I bought the internet specials, The El Paso Special. I custom ordered them with the stove-pipe tops, brown color, toe style I wanted etc. I measured them myself. I made a mistake, but they built me a new pair with no problem. They are quite a bit heavier made than the Justins/Noconas. They are a boot for the real workin' cowboy. I would recommend them to anybody. They are the best deal on the internet that I have found to date. They have received some bad press but I am truly proud to have bought them and to wear them. The fit and finish is first rate!

I have 18 pair now...for me my most comfort is in a Nocona..Ostrich, Cape Buffalo, it doesn't matter...I bought a vintage pair of black elephant Tony Lamas in Florida for $100. in perfect condition...go figure..Stingray is great...want a pair of mediterranean blue next and of course anteater would be nice...I have a vintage pair of Tony Lama black patent leather..unfortunately when I wore them they cracked in the crease a little, don't know how to prevent that. All in all, 7 days a week in boots have now earned me a reputation , as I work in a hospital in Philadelphia. It is true what they say about feeling good in western boots...gives you the added swagger , confidence and an edge on life...that's the way I see it anyway.Used boots are fun too, did you ever hear the reactions of non-boot people to that?...How can you wear someone elses boots...Is that a big deal? Still haven't had the chance to have a custom-made pair yet...maybe someday!Going to Arizona in April 2 weeks vacation..maybe I'll get lucky at a Flea market again...any hints are welcome....Enjoy !

As a bigfooted cowboy I always had a hard time getting boots to fit these elongated gunboats of mine. Recently I was wasting a bit of time in a local second hand store when I cam across a pair of SANDERS Mexican made cowboy boots which looked sizeable so I checked the size and was amazed to find a 14D. Now normally I wear either a 14 or 15 B boot, but these babies were in next to new condition, so I pulled em on. To my amazement they felt like they were custom made for me, never had I experienced such comfort. When I took them to the check out I couldnt believe that they were selling for under $10.00. It was my lucky day cause I live in these boots, wish I could meet the bigfooted cowboy who broke them in for me to thank him. Wonder why anyone would give up such a GREAT boot? Whatever, I'll walk a mile in these for sure, WHAT A FIND>>>>>>>>>>>>

I hate to admit it since they are just a production boot but I have a peanut brittle pair of Tony Lama lizards that are going on 25 years old now. You talk about boots that are broken in(and resoled many times)! While I have Luchesse sitting in the closet, it is still those old Tony Lamas that I grab when I want my favorite boot. I have been told by several people that a pair of lizards will not last that long but I am living proof that with alittle care it is possible. Believe it or not, they still look pretty good but unfortunately, while in the Grand Canyon area this summer I noticed the first split. I am now looking for someone in Houston that can fix my old friends.

My favorite pair of boots alas need some work doing to them I got them Austin Halls way back in 1985 or there abouts and they have been all over with me. Unfortunatly I have worn them out agian I got them fixed once in 1989 when I was back in Blighty but he was not the best repairer I have fixed the right sole myself but now need to do the left. I miss them they were like a second skin once they had wormed up. my main problem with getting good boots is (other than the cost and getting them down to here) my right leg is 3/4" shorter than the left off the shelfs need alterations and no one here to do it. and if the sole is not done properly it is worse than not having the alteration. So if there is any one who can give me a segestion of where to get something made without costing an arm and a leg Im all ears.

My lucchese, Honey elephant boots have been my favorite for the last 20 years. I used to where them daily for the first four years, and I'm not sure, but I think I've had the soles replaced 4 or 5 times. Since I'm a small Texan of 250lbs, thats pretty good wear. Very simple boots that have an understated elegance that will work on the farm or city. I was lucky once and got in some barbed wire while wearing these boots and have nothing to show on the elephant skin! There may be a better boot than these, but I'll resole these again and again until my children fight over these at my funeral.

I've been fortunate enough to own many pairs of boots in my life. My main pair now (and my absolute favorites---ever!) is a custom pair of Dave Little's from San Antonio. Maroon kangaroo 13" tops with my logo inlaid in gold, pull holes, tan and white hair-on calf bottoms, a wide welt, and natural finish (no dye) on the soles and heels. Simple, flashy, unique, and a perfect fit, which was always hard for me to find because I have huge feet! Dave and Sharon (and all the great folks who work there) solved that problem for me. They are wonderful to deal with, and I plan to buy as many pairs from them as I can from now on. I don't just consider mine great boots; I consider them works of art! God Bless Little Boots!!!

My favorite boots I bought at at an antique fair. I have about 15 pairs of stock boots but at the antique fair a couple of months ago I found a pair of Austin-Hall bbots that blew me away. They are sky blue with a red overlay across the top of the vamp and a white sreaming eagle inlaid in the. White stars and white piping on the shaft and white piping seperating all the colors on the vamps. A truly beautiful boot and with my luck they fit! These were custom made but not for my foot but a pretty close match.

I know this will sound strange to some boot wearers out there, but my favorite boots are made by cowtown boots out of ElPaso. Some people say they are not a quality boot, but I disagree. Their boots are just as good, if not better than some of the Tony Lamas and lucchese's I've owned. In particular, my favorite pair is a pair of cognac gators. Ive only bought two pairs of made to measure boots in my life and both fit well, but the cowtown 12D w-toes fit just as well and their right of the rack. I want to put in a plug for the amazing boots I got from BLUCHER CUSTOM BOOTS in Okmulgee, Olkahoma. They are fantastic. Gorgeous leathers, perfect stitching, and they are more comfortable than the socks I wear underneath them. Mine are the style # 40, just like you see on their website (search for it under Blucher Boots and you'll find it) and I can't imagine a better boot or a better fit. I just got me a new pair of custom made tan bullhide boots with 17-inch forest green tops made by Tex Robin of Coleman, Texas and they are, by far--the BEST built, MOST comfortable, and MOST HANDSOME pair of cowboy boots I've purchased to date!! They are truly AWESOME !! They have an ornate collar on the tops with inlayed stars and geometric pieces, and teardrop style pull-holes, and fancy multi-rowed stitching....beautiful craftmanship went into this pair! I sure wish I could post a picture attachment but you can view some of Tex's boots in his gallery by copy and pasting the URL address below:

I'm a "weekend wrangler" and I go horseback riding often, and Tex even made spur ridges on the heels for me. My second pair will be a pair of black bullhides which I'm going to have monogrammed with a brand of my initials on the tops. Tex can make boots the way you want them built--especially if you desire a special design, inlays, logo, initials, or brand for the boot tops. Tex is a master craftsman in the art of bootmaking, and a good and honest man to do business with. He is also my latest choice for my FAVORITE bootmaker, too!

Hello, my name is Jessica Crice and I thought I would tell you about my favorite boot maker. I am also a very honest person and not biased at all. So I will tell you that the bootmaker I am telling you about is my mother. She is the owner and craftswoman of C&J Custom Boots and Saddles. I know that you may think that my opinion is swayed because she is in fact my mother, but she is an excellent person, and wonderful boot maker that deserves credit. Cindy, or Mom as I call her worked very hard to go to school to learn to make boots after 20 years in the Air Force. I have worn many many boots over the years, and never had I seen the quality of a boot so excellent until my mother made my first pair. They were a lace up roper and burgandy in color with my initials inlayed on the heels in silver. However, I have to say that my favorite pair is the pair that my now 2 1/2 year old son wears constantly around stomping and you know how rough kids are on boots! They are still in perfect condition and he LOVES them! If you are looking for a great boot that fits perfect and looks excellent, I highly recomend Cindy Semmerling (C&J Custom Boots) of Temple, Oklahoma!

I am a small town girl from NC. I meet Cindy, (owner and artist from C & J custom boots) almost 7 years ago while serving in the Air Force, stationed in TX. I had never owned a pair of boots because I could not find a pair that fit right. Well, she promised me that I would fit comfortably in the ones that she made. She made me my first pair of boots. I ordered ostrich with much detailing on them. (A man in the moon, flower cactus with thorns, and Texas state shape on the heel) Needless to say, I have ordered another pair from her for me and another pair for my husband. Cindy has also made a beautiful guitar strap for his guitar. I have ordered belts for my children. We are both are sold on custom made boots by C & J Boot Company. We just recently moved to Temple, Ok. You know that we are sastisfied customers when we move to the same town as our bootmaker. Cindy Semmerling is a very talented boot maker. I would highly recommend her boots to anyone.

My favorite pair of boots now are my cognac alligators I ordered from bootstop.com. They are incredible looking. They are 15-inces tall, have a medium round toe and 2 1/4-inch undershot heels. They sell for $475.00, but look like they should be $800 or $1,000. I absolutely love them. I would not hesitate to recommend ordering from them. I also have a pair of custom boots on order from championboot.com. They are 16-inches tall and have a star collar and pull straps, natural retan tops, natural retan rough-side out vamps, a one-inch square toe and 2 1/2-inch undershot heels. I saw a picture of Alan Jackson wearing a pair like this and have looked everywhere for a pair. I just had to have them. I finally saw a pair on Champion's website that I though could be made up this way and sure enough they could. They will probably arrive around the first part of June. Can't wait. These are both great website with terrific looking boots . This will bring me up to nine pairs now and I am just getting started.

They fit perfect and are nothing to compare to Nacona or Justin. Those brands are the best off-the-shelve boots but for handmade boots you have to try Paul Bond Boots. The old saying "you get what you paid for" applys.

I've got several pair of great custom boots, Full quill Ostrich foot from Wheeler Boots, in Houston Tx are by far the most costly and elaborate. They fit like a glove, and are just beautiful.
The best all round using boots though are from Jim's Boot Shop in Locksburg Arkansas. Jim is quite a character, and his boots are great. Really first quality, and they fit!! I just stopped
by and ordered a pair of Smooth Ostrich ropers. If you'r ever in Southwest Arkansas, stop by and let him measure you up for a pair. I don't wear boots every day, so I'll probably never wear
out the ones that I've got now, but I'm a sucker for new boots.

I,ve got a pair of cowboy boots which I ordered from Austin-Hall which was about November 1976.and I wore them especially for dress.often times.my folks asked me when I would wear them, but I just say,I,ll wear,em when I dress up.I wore,em a few times for when I sang on special music programs.I dreamed and dreamed of contacting some custom bootmaker about ordering a pair in some colors in silver or gold.but I think a very few bootmakers carry those leathers of those colors.cause if you call any of them and ask if they have calf or kidskins in these colors, they,ll find them for,ya if you ask,em these boots from Austin-Hall I still have are black,14 inch tops plus the,1 3/4,"heel,walking.

My one pair of basic black American West boots fades in comparison to the large collections of custom boots others have mentioned in this site. My financial situation limits me to one pair, but I wear these boots to work almost every day. They're very comfortable and afforable. I hope to add to my small collection soon, as normal dress shoes kill my feet! One day I hope to afford some J. B. Hill boots. I've got their catalog, but for now, I can only afford to look! If I could afford it, I'd have at least several pairs!

My favorite pair of cowboy boots are the ones Horace Parsley
retired bootmaker of Olsen-Stezler Cowboy boots,
Henrietta, Texas made for me.
I saw it first in Sharon Delano's book "Texas Boots".
I tracked Horace down at Fulton Missouri.
He made me 4 pairs of Cowboy boots in my size 8 1/2 D.
#1 was a pair with black vamp with a white inlay on the boot shaft of
outspread wings, with a circle "P" in the center of the wings.
#2 was a pair with sharp pointed toe kangaroo vamp, 12" bootshaft
with 8 rows of multiclored stitching.
These are like wearing moccasins.
#3 was a pair with a medium pointed square toe, reddish brown
cowhide vamp,
with a tooled leather boot shaft, flowers and an eagle with
outstreched wings.
They have dark brown buck stitching along the boot shaft seams
and the crown.
#4 was a pair with a black kangaroo vamp with a bright red toe
wingtips, red stitching on the boot shaft.
The last time I saw Horace, he showed me a newspaper clipping
that was framed in the boot store window.
It told of a man, who after graduating from college in 1928, went to
Denver, as a cattle buyer for a Texas meatpacking Company.
He needed a pair of Cowboy Boots, so he bought a pair
of ready made Olsen-Stezler boots in his size.
He wrote back, years later, that after numerous resolings,
he needed a new pair of Olsen-Stezler Cowboy Boots.
The letter was dated Oct 1957.

My favorite boots are the Luccheses my father gave me for my 18th birthday. Not quite custom made, they fit well and have served me beyond all expectations for the past for years. I would most highly recommend them to anyone looking for boots in the $250-500 U.S. price range. Although these are great, I have a pair of boots made of elephant ear made by Capitol Saddlery (Austin, TX) from my grandfather, that, although too large for me, are my truly favorite boots.

Hmmm, my favorite pair of boots? The Bucking Bronc that Olsen Stelzer Boot of Henrietta Texas used to build. Yes, that company did close back in the early 80's but they had a decent reputaion for building a good boot, factory style. They built a stock boot as well as a made to measure custom boot. I was employed by them for several years prior to the close. I worked in the stitch department and was taught to do my jobs by the "old" hands. In fact some of the ladys were in their 60's-80's as were many of the employees there at that time. They taught me many things such as a real work ethic, pride in a job done well, patience, and an eye for detail. It was truly an art to them and for most of them the only job they had ever had. Over the years I have had many jobs and done many different types of manufacturing and art work. However, this was the one job that I loved doing. I am glad to be back to doing it. I stitch boot tops for custom bootmakers from all over the U.S. My business is still new and growing and I expect it to grow even more as more folks learn of me and what I do. I have enjoyed visiting this site and seeing that so many people also appreciate bootmaking as an art and a craft in the truest sense.

I have always loved cowboy boots and everything about the cowboy lifestyle. I guess my favorite boots at the moment are my J. Chisholm ostrich boots. They are cognac and are 13-inches tall. I hope to get some good handmade boots when I go to El Past next month for the rodeo. I want some tall boots, 16-inches, with at least 2 1/2 inch riding heels. I will probably buy a pair from Champion Boots. The ones on their website look great, expecially the ones called El Pistolero.. Has anyone worn their boots and what do you think of them. Is there another one that you think is better. I also want to check all of the outlet stores down there. I plan to do several days of boot shopping and going to the rodeo. Sounds like heaven to me.

Mmm ... my favorite pair of secret-agent-girl-cowboy-boots makes me want to sit up and beg with joy. They have this BIG SON-OF-A-BITCHIN HEEL that makes me feel all TALL and they're BROWN and they have this funky ROUND TOE and they only cost me FOUR DOLLARS and I think they used to belong to a MAN. They're the only pair of cowboy boots I've ever been able to have a lasting relationship with. Things don't usually work out between me and my cowboy boots. But these cowboy boots are different. I have been and still am a boot rep here on the west coast. Ten years with Olathe Boot untill the factory closed. Olathe has been purchased and is up and running again. In the interim I am now selling for Remington Boots of El Paso Texas. We make all types of had lasted Cowboy boots, but especially exotics. I am also still carrying Olathe Buckaroos. These 2 boot companys compliment each other very well as each has its own following. Both companies are small but are filling the gap for had made quality boots since the big boys have cut back on the quality and have gone to mass production and off shore manufacturing. You will see both these compnies emerging on the store shelves as they are making what real cowboys and serious boot people want. Love your webb site.

I have tried J.Chisholm (real nice deer), Lama (even better black cherry ostrich) etc.
But have just got a pair custom made by Ramon Navarro at Capitol Saddlery in Austin,TX.
These are fantastic boots! The fit is perfect, it should be because he spent the best part of 40 minutes measuring both feet!
The lasts have my name on them, so my next pair will fit the same way.
Only ONE bad thing that came from getting these, it is REAL hard going back to stock fit boots!

For pure comfort, I recommend Red Wing "pull on" Pecos wellingtons. Even if you don't like wellings, you'll melt when your feet hit into these. I have two more pair for when the current ones wear out. For cowboy boots, I like my Laredo burnt brown pointers. I've capped the toes. Kids come up and ask to touch them. An old man asked if I could find him a pair for his retiree' square dance. Other favorites are old Wolverine work boots, and my Chippewa engineers. So soft I forget
when they're on.

A couple of months ago I received my new pair of J.B.Hills - their tan roughout model. I pulled them out of the box and couldn't believe my eyes - they were (and still are) beautiful! Well, beauty's one thing but fits another thing alltogether and I'd ordered them over the phone. I'd told them my Lamas had become a bit small (do feet really get bigger as you get older?) so they advised me and I did just what I wanted and ordered the next size up. They fit like a dream. Second day of wearing them I walked at least 5 miles -slight miscalculation on where the buses were going - no blisters. I do believe I'll go back for another pair.

My favorite pair of boots is a pair of STEWARTS. They have working heels and Spanish tops and squared toes. I am a difficult fit and nothing I have ever worn comes even close to these STEWARTS. My only complaint is that they are a little hot when the temperature gets above about a hundred degrees, but they breathe well and my feet stay moderately dry. Can't say that for my Lama and my Chavez made gear. By the way, you have the name for STEWART wrong in your offline section. The company name is STEWART BOOT MFG. CO. The men who run that outfit are real gentlemen who know how to satisfy a customer. You might want to give them a try - at least a call.

I am a pretty easy fit,so a lot of boots fit me good. Ive got about 20 pairs, mostly custom made boots by various Texas bootmakers including Austin-Hall, Champion, and Rocketbuster. My favorite pair changes from day to day, depending on my mood. Lately ive been into fancy mule ears and exotic skins of varouus colors. Today my favorite is a pair of Austin-Hall custom boots as follows: Milk Chocolate vamps with dark chocolate lizard overlay on the toe and heel, medium blue tops with green saguaro cactus inlays with green and red flowers, red scalloped collar with yellow stars and yellow piping, and long red mule ears with yellow stars and yellow piping, 14" high, way underslung heels, and sharp pointed toe, AND they fit great, they look great and they tell a story of the stars in the desert sky with cactus, the mule ears are falling stars, and the brown vamps are the earth, and the lizard overlays are the amimals on the earth, so look out, these boots are made for struttin around in. Maybe tommorrow ill wear the sky blue ostritch, yea.

My boots were made for me by Dave Little of San Antone. They're black with 6-row flame stitching, crispin wrinkles and toe bugs. They are stove pipe tops, but with a 1 inch scallop in the back (no side seams). The ears are done with a "J H" on the outside and a black and red ladybug on the inside. They are not the first good pair of boots I have, but they are certainly the most expensive! Oh, they are black French calf leather with pointed box toes. They're good 'uns!

My favorite pair (so far) are my peanut brittle lizzard cowboy boots by Lucchese. I have 12 pair of Luccheses. I know that they are not in the class of custom handmade boots from all of the great bootmakers(Bond, Leddy, Franklin, etc.) but I enjoy getting "boot fever" and driving to the nearest western store, trying on a pair of Lucchese boots, and walking out with them. I do have a pair of used Jim Leddy boots that I like but they are a little tight for me. I hope to someday say that I have a pair of Bond's or Franklin's or Bell's made just for me, but until that time my Lucchese boots feel wonderful.

I've got around 23 pair (last time I checked). But the pair I'd grab in a fire are my Paul Bonds. They have a black sharkskin foot and red 16-inch tops. I can wear them all day riding, then clean them up and wear them out on the town at night . A good stout boot! They even angled my heels to compensate for my wearing heels down on the outside.
I've recently made a trip to El Paso and came back with 5-pair. You can't beat the prices in those outlet stores. Brand new pairs from $40 to $100!

Owning a small collection, all my size of course, it's a little hard to pick the favorite. But the most unique are the pair that I designed myself using computer drafting. I took the plans to Paul Bond a couple years ago and they built them. They're tall, about 20 inches with a cavalry type cuff, 3 inch heels, and consist of deep red, cream, black, gold and yellow leather. The design was computer inspired using symetrical mirroring of various shapes that is possible in AutoCad. What resulted is a really neat pair of boots.

I'm a custom cowboy bootmaker, and my favorite pair of boots is a reproduction of a pair of vintage boots designed by the bootmaker who introduced me to bootmaking. The original boot was made in the late 1940's, and had more detail than any boots I've ever seen. The first time I saw it, I said, "Someday I'm going to be good enough to make something like that." My boots are blue, green, silver, fuschia, yellow and lavender. They have inlay, overly, perforations and lacing. I have a hundred hours in the inlay work alone. I love to wear them because they're unique, and everyone notices me when I walk by!

My favorite boots were recently custom made for me by J.B.Hill. They have a black vamp with a 3/4" box toe and acognac shaft. They are a modified version of one in their catalog. Since their stock last did not work for me, JamieHill modified it to fit my foot using one of my Rios of Mercedes boots as a model. They are made of soft leather and are a joy to wear. I call them 5 star boots because they have 5 stars stitched on each one. There is a star oneach pull strap, two stars on the shaft, and one star on the vamp, which is the J.B.Hill trademark.

A pair of 18" tall-topped boots custom-made by Rusty Franklin of San Angelo, TX. Forest green tops with mule-ears, eight rows of stitching and chocolate retan foot with bug and wrinkles. 1-3/4 underslung heels with double thick leather soles. Well broke-in and comfortable to wear. The best pair of boots I've ever owned by the best bootmaker in Texas, in my humble opinion!!!
