Justin Cowboy Boots

Have you seen the updated Justin Boots website with all its multimedia bells and whistles?

The video you see above is borrowed from their bootmaking page. It's great, because it's narrated...you are told exactly what those fancy machines are up to. "Freeze form molding," now you can say you've seen it in action. Wow.

You'll find a couple more videos on the heritage page. Just click on the corners of their virtual scrapbook to turn the pages. Zoom your mouse around to get a closer look at the photos. (Cameo by Mr. Warren Buffet.)

Hi. I wonder to what extent Justin boots are currently made this way - I noticed for instance that many of their boots have been made in Mexico and seem to use inferior materials. If anyone can disabuse me and say that Justin boot production has been brought back to the U.S. and its quality fully restored (to the level of the 80's~early 90's, say) I would of course be absolutely thrilled.

First off, some of the best boots being made are coming straight out of Mexico. Now lets be realistic here and put our prejudices aside when dealing with mexican made boots. Consider all the other places where "American" boots are being made: China, India, Taiwan and where not. These boots have a reputation of poor quality workmanship and material. I'm a genuine boot freak from San Antonio and I think I owned enough pairs to have my say in this blog and I'll say that out of all the boots i owned (Lama, Justin's, Lucchese, Red Wing ropers, and Ariat) the ones made in Mexico stood the test of time and the award goes to Justin's. I think it's sad that my 850 dollar "American" made Lucchese stitches startes to unravel at the heels and my gauranteed for life "American" made Red Wings sold me a lie when I returned my boots because the rubber soles wore out drastically and was told told that the line was discontinued and could not replace it, not even with a cheaper boot on display. I had to pay for new ones. No Way. I never had a complaint about my Justin's. Cheaper? Yeah. Quality may not be as good as they were in the 80's but neither are the milkshakes made today, but these boots sure outlasted many thatI have owned. So when buying boots, I think it is important to compare and contrast between boots made in the U.S., Mexico, China, and else where. You will agree that both Mexican and U.S. boots are far more superior than the boots made in the east. If you want an "American" boot then it is safe to say that Mexican boots are American boots, they are made in this continent. Think of the many reasons people bought their boots in the first place: good looking, nice grain leather, comfortable, and snug as a glove..... And later disown it or disgusted with it because it is manufactured Mexico? Mexico has a rich history of boot making and the "American" cowboys owe much of the outfits they wear to vaquero origin. Even the saddles they make are prized by ranchers here in Texas. So don't let "Hecho en Mexico" discourage you.
